How to apply
Admissions Process
At International School Fryslân, we aim to make the admissions process clear and straightforward for prospective families. Below is a detailed overview of the steps involved in applying for admission.
Step 1: Initial Inquiry
- Prospective parents or guardians are encouraged to contact the school to discuss eligibility and ask any questions related to the admissions process.
- During this initial contact, our admissions team will provide guidance on the school’s admissions criteria and advise whether your child is eligible to apply.
- Contact can be made via phone, email, or through the inquiry form on our website.
Step 2: Submission of Application
Once eligibility is confirmed, you are invited to submit the online application form. Upload the required supporting documents to the online checklist:
- Copies of your child’s passport(s) or national ID.
- Proof of residency or temporary employment in the Netherlands (if applicable).
- Numeracy and literacy work samples.
- Recent school reports or transcripts from previous educational institutions.
- For applications to Early Years & Grade 1: family drawing.
- Any relevant medical or learning support documentation.
Incomplete applications may delay processing.
Step 3: Review & Eligibility Assessment
- Upon receipt, the admissions team will conduct a thorough review of your application and supporting documents.
- The school will assess your child’s eligibility based on the official admission criteria outlined in the admissions policy.
- Additional information or documentation may be requested to assist with this assessment.
Step 4: Intake Meeting
If your child is eligible and the application is complete, you may be invited to an optional intake meeting with the Head of School or designated admissions officer.
This meeting allows us to:
- Understand your child’s educational background and needs.
- Discuss our high-quality international education and how we can support your child.
- Answer any remaining questions you may have.
The intake meeting can take place at school or online, as needed.
Step 5: Admissions Decision
- After the application review, parents will be informed of the admissions decision by email.
- An offer of enrolment will be sent by email via Open Apply including the enrolment contract and information about completing the final admissions step.
Important Notes

- Priority is generally given to students who meet the criteria for admission to a public international school as defined by Dutch educational regulations.
- We recommend applying well in advance to secure a place, especially for popular year groups or mid-year entry.
