After school & Childcare
International School Fryslân works closely with Sinne Childcare. With 34 locations, Sinne is a key childcare provider in Leeuwarden and the surrounding area. At our location, Sinne operates within the integrated child center (IKC) in close cooperation with ISF education. This collaboration creates a continuous development pathway for children from 0 to 13 years.
Educational vision
At Sinne, every child is seen as unique, capable, and curious. Development happens through interaction with others and the environment, in a safe and supportive atmosphere where children feel valued. Children are encouraged to become independent, responsible, and active participants. In a trusted, secure, and stimulating setting, they are given space to play, learn, and grow, guided by professional and dedicated staff.
Sinne is a socially committed childcare organization in Leeuwarden, dedicated to providing every child with an equal start and equal opportunities. This makes Sinne a valuable partner for both parents and educational partners.
Believing in every child’s potential
At Sinne, we believe in the strength and potential of every child, regardless of home language or cultural background. Our childcare welcomes children who may not yet speak either Dutch or English. To communicate, we use more than spoken language alone. Children are encouraged to express themselves through play, drawing, creative activities, music, sports, singing, and dance.
Our childcare professionals provide structure through predictable routines, group rules, and a clear daily rhythm. They also make extensive use of visual aids such as pictograms (for example daily schedules), body language, and modeling (showing and imitating).

Embracing multilingualism and cultural diversity
At Sinne we believe in the value of a positive approach to multilingualism and cultural diversity for both children and parents. This approach helps children and families to get acquainted with other languages and cultures, and prevents them from seeing their own culture as the sole norm. It fosters a positive and open attitude toward cultural diversity within the IKC and beyond.
In addition, multilingual development can support:
- faster learning of a third or fourth language,
- children’s cognitive development, such as abstract thinking,
- strengthening children’s communication and social interaction skills.
At our daycare and after-school care, we offer a bilingual program (English and Dutch). When creating a language-rich environment around a theme, we use both English and Dutch children’s books. We also make use of bilingual word cards and songs (English/Dutch) that are linked to the theme.
