When will the International School in Leeuwarden open?
The school is expected to officially open in January 2026, if everything goes according to plan.
When does the application process for the 2025/2026 school year begin?
We expect the application process to open in September 2025. We will inform you as soon as enrollment becomes available.
How can I apply for my child?
Applications will likely be accepted either via an online application form or by submitting a paper-based form.
What age group does the school serve?
The international primary school is intended for children aged 4 to 11 years.

What language is used for instruction?
The school aims to follow the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) in English. A small part of the curriculum will also include Dutch language and culture.
My children do not speak Dutch or English yet. Is language support available?
Yes. There are different options depending on the school type:
International schools teach in English and provide additional language support when needed.
Dutch schools may place children in language transition classes (“schakelklassen”) to learn Dutch before entering regular education.

What are the tuition fees for international schools?

Are school uniforms required?
No. In the Netherlands, children do not wear school uniforms. They can wear their own clothes.

What is the average class size?
In Dutch schools: typically 20 to 30 students per class
In international schools: typically 15 to 25 students.

Where will the school be located in Leeuwarden?
The International School Friesland will be located in the IKC Middelsee building, on the south side of Leeuwarden. This modern facility is easily accessible from cities and villages throughout Friesland.
