Admission Policy
International School Fryslân (ISF) is a public international school located in the Netherlands and part of the PCBO Leeuwarden foundation. Our school is designed for internationally mobile families and Dutch nationals who have lived abroad and seek an international curriculum delivered in English.
As a government-funded public international school, ISF follows the official admissions criteria established for international education in the Netherlands.
Type of school
International School Fryslân is a public international school, which means:
- We receive partial funding from the Dutch Ministry of Education.
- We follow Dutch educational standards and policies.
- We are are a public school (not private!) and therefore only accept students who meet the specific admission criteria for public international schools.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for admission to International School Fryslân, your child must meet at least one of the following criteria:
Age requirement
- Children are eligible for admission if they are 4 years old on or before the cut-off date.
Non-Dutch Nationality
- Your child holds a non-Dutch nationality, and
- At least one parent is temporarily employed in the Netherlands or
- Your family is unsure how long you will remain in the country.
Dutch Nationality with International Background
- Your child holds Dutch nationality, and
- Has lived abroad for an extended period, and
- Has recently returned to the Netherlands (e.g. due to relocation for work or study), and
- Has been educated in a language other than Dutch.
Future International Relocation
- You expect to move abroad within two years, and
- Prefer that your child receives an international curriculum in preparation for education outside the Netherlands.
Open Enrollment Policy
At International School Fryslân, we operate an open enrollment policy, which means that we welcome applications at any time during the school year. This flexibility allows families relocating to the region or seeking a new school environment to join us without having to wait for the next academic year. If your situation does not match these criteria, your child may not be eligible to attend a public international school under Dutch law. In such cases, we may refer you to other educational options or private international schools.
Language of Instruction
At International School Fryslân, the language of instruction is English. We welcome students from a wide variety of language backgrounds. If your child speaks little or no Dutch, international education may be a suitable choice. All lessons, communication, and learning support are provided in English, with additional support for students who are developing English as an additional language (EAL).
School Fee Guide
At International School Fryslân (ISF), we are committed to providing high-quality international education at an accessible cost. Here you will find the tuition structure, payment terms, and refund policy applicable to the school year. Note: The opening of the school is planned January 2026. Due to this late opening all the amounts and dates mentioned here are adjusted according to the period of application.

General Terms & Conditions
- These terms apply to all students enrolled at International School Fryslân.
- Failure to meet payment deadlines without prior arrangement may jeopardize the student’s placement.
- All fees are subject to annual review. Any changes will be communicated in a timely manner.
- The school reserves the right to withhold student records in the event of unpaid fees.
Payment Terms
Annual Payment Options
Option 1: One lump sum payment of €4,000 before May 1
Option 2: Two equal installments of €2,000:
- First installment: Due May 1
- Second installment: Due November 1
For Mid-Year Start (Early 2026)
Tuition will be calculated pro rata based on the start date.
Payment must be made in one lump sum before December 1.
Late Enrollments
Fees will be adjusted pro rata based on the number of remaining school months.
Refund Policy
